Time, Speed, Distance (TSD) Rally

Sponsored By

The Porsche Design TSD Rally takes place Tuesday of Parade week.

The Pocono Mountains are the perfect setting to take you over sweeping hills, valleys and farmlands in a Rally created for your driving pleasure.  It will delight the novice as well as challenge the experts!  You'll both start and finish at the Kalahari Resort, taking approximately four hours to run including a break or two (gas stop, potty, regroup).  The span is approximately 125 miles.  As always, you should be back in time for the afternoon Ice Cream Social and RC Car competition!
The competitive part of this event is following the course and matching assigned speeds (never over the speed limit) and then monitoring your progress at checkpoints along the route. Consider bringing a clipboard, writing instruments, and especially your smart device.

  •    NEW for 2022!

The TSD Rally goes hi-tech, utilizing the RICHTA App (info below) on your smartphone or tablet.   This free app provides you with a rally clock, your score in real time at each checkpoint, as well as your total score as your progress thru the route. The best part, no score sheets to submit.

We will have a display at the finish area that provides your score for each checkpoint along with the scores of other cars. Perfect to hang around after and discuss how it went.

  •     UPDATES for 2022:

The TSD rally will now allow any GPS Navigation system to be used in any class.  A big change. In addition, your navigator can be as young as 13 years old.  Check under the JPP option when registering in Phase ll.  Also new for ’22 is the elimination of the “Unequipped Navigational” class.  So now there’s only 5 classes from which to select.

Need help learning to Rally?

We’ve got you covered there, too!  The TSD Rally School will be held on Monday afternoon after the concours and having lunch.  There will be plenty time to attend and still make it to your free night.

Whether you’re new to the world of TSD Rallying or just want a refresher, the TSD Rally School is a great resource to get you ready to go. It’s taught by past TSD Rally Champions. You’ll learn about the course, what to bring, what to expect, tips for staying on time, what to do at a checkpoint (control) and most importantly, learning about the RICHTA App. The school will also cover the rally generals, such as terminology, sample route instructions, Q&A session and more.

Registration

You’ll be able to sign up during Phase II. Only the entrant or co-entrant bringing the Porsche can register for this Rally and only 2 people are permitted in the vehicle for this event, The Driver and the Navigator.  Parade guests are not permitted in this event.

What class do I sign up for?

During the Phase II Registration you will select one of the 5 classes in which to compete. Each is determined by the type of equipment or navigational aids used. This year all entrants may run using a GPS Navigation system.

The more experienced TSD rallyists typically run in either the R01 or R02 or R03 classes. The TSD Rally classes are defined in the PCR's. Entrants are responsible for classifying their own vehicle. Changes can be made at the Parade Check-In on Sunday, June 12th if necessary. The Rallymasters are also available to answer classification questions at  paradetsdrally2022@gmail.com

The TSD Rally General Instructions will be available May 2022 or before. Questions about the General Instructions will be accepted (in writing or email) until Friday, June 10, 2022.

The RICHTA Competitor App is a program that runs on your iPhone or Android based phone or tablet.  It uses GPS coordinates for checkpoint timing. It does not use any cell phone service provider for the recording of your in time at the control, so cell service along the route is never an issue.. It is recommended that:

  1. You download the app in advance to the device you will be using.
  2.  Your smartphone or tablet be fully charged prior to the start of the event on Tuesday.
  3. Bring a power cord and adapter for use in your car to insure constant battery life.
  4. Consider a mounting device (suction or cup holder) for your smartphone/tablet in a position that you can view it during the rally.
